Two Portmore women nabbed with ganja at airport
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two women of Portmore, St Catherine addresses were last weekend arrested in separate incidents at the Norman Manley International Airport for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Thirty-eight-year-old Tamara Williams, a businesswoman of Hellshire Heights was arrested and charged on Friday, November 4.
Reports from the Narcotics Police are that about 10:20 am Williams, was at the baggage make up area at the airport when irregularities were observed in her luggage.
The police were called and a black suitcase bearing her name was searched in her presence and several false compartments containing six parcels of marijuana weighing approximately eight pounds were revealed.
She was charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja and conspiracy to export ganja and is scheduled to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, November 11.
The following day a 33-year-old female customer service representative of a Silverstone, Greater Portmore address was also arrested.
Police report that about 12:15 pm the woman checked in on a Caribbean Airlines flight destined for Barbados when she was stopped and questioned. Her luggage was searched and allegedly found to have a false compartment containing marijuana.
Her identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
