#LocalGovt16: JLP seeks to flip 1:3 ratio in St Catherine South Western
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — There was jubilation in the air in the town of Old Harbour, St Catherine, as Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters cheered loudly when their candidates for divisions in St Catherine South Western finished the nomination process earlier today.
The four JLP candidates for the upcoming local government election are: Keith Knight for Old Harbour North, Steve Graham for Old Harbour Central, Lloyd Grant for Old Harbour South and Andre Mark O’Connor for the Church Pen Division.
However, the People’s National Party (PNP) candidates, as well as their supporters have stated that the government is not performing as they should.
According to one supporter from Old Harbour Central Division, who declined to give his name, the JLP has tricked Jamaicans, especially with their tax relief plan, and so proper representation is needed at the local government level.
The PNP currently has three of the four divisions in St Catherine South Western.
The Opposition’s candidates are: Basil Jackson for Old Harbour North, Esworth Frankson for Old Harbour Central, Peter Fitzroy Davis for Old Harbour South and Andrew Robinson for Church Pen, which is the only division controlled by the JLP.
