#LocalGovt16: Two independents among 32 local gov’t candidates in Manchester
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The Manchester Central and Manchester Southern constituencies both had one councillor/candidate each that presented as independent contenders in the Nomination Day activities today.
Marlon Mitchell is contesting the Bellefield Division in Central while Curt Brown’s interest is in the Alligator Pond Division in the South.
Overall, thirty-two candidates were nominated in the parish — nine each from the aforementioned areas, eight from Manchester North Western and six from Manchester North Eastern.
The four Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) returning officers reported that there were no Nomination day related incidents in their respective areas.
Recently appointed Superintendent for the Manchester Police Division, Wayne Cameron, described the day’s proceedings across the parish as “extremely smooth.”
While colours of the two main political parties could be seen in the Mandeville town centre today, there was not much fanfare.
The fate of all the nominated candidates will be decided at the Local Government Election poll on November 28.
