Making it to the Diamond Mile

Making it to the Diamond Mile

The chase is definitely on for final places in the December 10 Diamond Mile sponsored by the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), with main affiliate sponsors, Supreme Ventures Limited, the Jamaica Observer, ATL Automotive Limited and ISP Finance Limited.

Tomorrow’s Burger King sponsored Superstakes Day should provide answers as to which horses will fill the 16 positions for the $13.5 million Diamond Mile — the richest race by far in Jamaica.

The winners of the Superstakes, the Caribbean Sprint Championship and the Invitational Mile are guaranteed automatic places in the Diamond Mile.

Top money earner Orpheus is out for the rest of the year. Bigdaddykool is a sure entry, while Nuclear Affair — based on morning sightings — is out until next season. Filly, A Thousand Stars, the Oaks winners is a sure starter if her connections decide to run her.

Buzz Nightmare must find eight furlongs a bit taxing and it is not know yet whether he will particpate, while Brawn has shown real improvement of late. Last year’s winner, Seeking My Dream, seems in place to defend his his crown.

Signficant interest surrounds the entry of Franfield, Typewriter and Perfect Neighbour. If these three outstanding horses fail to win the Superstakes they might find it rather difficult to reach the Diamond Mile.

Interesting times are ahead.
