The fourth and last of the Organisational Capacity Eduposia, hosted by the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA), took place on Saturday, October 29 at the office of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) under the title “Creating Wealth and Game Changing”.

It was a day of robust discussions on sport governance and administration, the business of sport as well as games and tournament preparation, execution and post-evaluation and involved stakeholders across the sport sector.

Presenters were JPA President Christopher Samuda, JPA Secretary General Suzanne Harris-Henry, JPA treasurer, Courtney Lodge, and UTech sport senior lecturer, David Richards.

Guest speaker, Opposition Spokesperson on Sport and Member of Parliament Natalie Neita challenged the JPA to continue building on the successes of the para athletes in establishing Jamaica’s presence globally in paralympic sports. She called for greater support of the paralympic movement in its work and lauded the association’s current strategy to be represented competitively in muti-disciplines at Tokyo, including wheelchair fencing, rowing and taekwondo.

Samuda, in turn, reminded the attendees of the imperative of equipping and empowering themselves through education and training. He said that the objective for each seminar was to inform, educate and inspire on the subject matters while giving participants a very practical and incisive approach to sport administration.

Calls for a repeat of the series were audible and may very well be heeded as the paralympic movement plans on moving to Montego Bay later this year in establishing a presence there and in search of talent. Kirk Kennedy, JPA director who chaired the sessions, in his summation said that the Eduposia provided invaluable tools and an action plan for the development of sport as well as a vital learning and growth path for associations and federations.
