Nicky B signs publishing deal
Singer/songwriter Nicky B has signed a publishing deal with Reservoir Media Management. The deal was sealed a week ago with the company’s senior vice-president, Donna Caseine.
“I am extremely happy because I am now in a position to help other persons,” an excited Nicky B (real name Nicholas Bennett) told Splash Thursday.
He added: “We need more writers from Jamaica getting publishing offers because there is so much that can be accomplished globally.”
Based in Los Angeles, Nicky B said he was approached by Reservoir Media Management after recording sessions with high-profile producers like Dr Luke, Tony Gad, Red One, and DJ Mustard.
As part of the deal, two of his songs will be released in early January. They are Like A Rose, which he co-wrote with Sam Hook (who wrote Oh Na Na by Trey Songz); and Oh Nah Nah Nah, which he co-wrote with Sydney Bennett, aka Syd da Kyd, a member of Grammy-nominated band The Internet.
Nicky B is the son of music producer and songwriter Mikey Bennett, who had success on the American pop charts in the 1990s with songs like
House Call by Shabba Ranks and Maxi Priest.
The younger Bennett made his recording debut 14 years ago. His best-known songs include Swarm Me, a remake of If It Isn’t Love featuring Sean Paul; Like This Before (with deejay Shifta) and Mad Me (with Ce’Cile).
Nicky B has co-written songs with US Virgin Islands duo Rock City and Andre Merritt. He wrote See Her Again for Hawaiian reggae artiste J Boog.
