Police seize 3 more illegal guns
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police officers in St Elizabeth, St Catherine and the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Division (C-TOC) yesterday seized three firearms and several rounds of ammunition over a 12-hour period.
In the first incident, reports are that about 3:00 pm, the Lacovia police was on operation in Burnt Savannah, St Elizabeth, when a black plastic bag was found in an open lot. The police say it contained a Berretta 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition.
About three hours later in Spanish Town, St Catherine, officers conducting a search on Old Harbour Road found one sub-machine gun.
Then about 11:45 pm, officers attached to C-TOC was on patrol duties on Dumfries Street in Denham Town, Kingston 14, when they observed men standing on a pathway.
When they approached, one of the men dropped an object and ran. The object was reportedly retrieved and found to be a .45 Springfield pistol with a magazine containing five cartridges.
No one was taken into custody in connection with the seizures, the police say.
The police say this brings to five the number of firearms seized over a two-day period in separate incidents.
