Mr G joins the
In 1996, Fudgie produced by Main Street Records and recorded by deejay Chad “Goofy” Simpson, topped local charts. It made the newcomer an instant star.
He followed-up with hits including
Big Man Little Youth (featuring Red Rat), Whining Machine (with Sanchez), Buff Bay, andDark Bark.
After a name change to Mr G, the hits continued. In 2001 he scored with the Steely and Clevie-produced
Old Crook.
Twenty years after his breakthrough hit, Mr G has experienced a career revival with
MoneyTeam, on producer Seanizzle’s 47thFloor rhythm.
“
Money Team is a song that is dedicated to people who are working towards bettering themselves and putting themselves in a better position in life where they can take care of not only themselves but their family and generations to come,” he said in an interview with theJamaica Observer.
This is his latest collaboration with Seanizzle, who produced 2010’s
Swaggerific, which was a significant hit.
Originally from Jones Town in Kingston, Mr G got into music while attending St Catherine High School. After graduation, he began visiting recording studios before settling with Main Street, which had a hot slate of artistes such as Richie Stephens, Red Rat, Buccaneer, and General Degree.
In 1999, VP Records released his first album,
I Don’t Give A Damn. Five years later, S-Curve Records, owned by former Universal Music and Columbia Records executive Steve Greenberg, released the album,Issues.
Early 2017 will see the release of Mr G’s third album, to be distributed by VP Records subsidiary VPAL. He has also revived his Young Blood Records with the release of the
Exotic rhythm.
