Our History…
“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes time. Vision with action can change the world.”
~Joel A. Barker
1946 – In the beginning…
A young Canadian Optometrist named Charles Broadbent opened and began practicing his skills at 1 ¼ Duke Street, Kingston. There began a long and illustrious tradition of Broadbent’s eye care in Jamaica. Over the years, the business grew and although Charles Broadbent eventually sold it, the name “Broadbent” remained and became synonymous with reliable, thorough, and professional vision care.
You see, it was a passion for eye health that lead the brand to start its expansion in the late 1960s with the opening of a branch in Ocho Rios and another one a few years later at The Nuttall Medical Centre, which was later relocated in 2008 to the Winchester Business Centre at 15 Hope Road. By 2005, Jamaicans could receive premium optical services in Montego Bay, Port Antonio and Portmore, St. Catherine. The latest addition to the family came just a few years ago with the opening of the Westmoreland branch in July 2013.
Today…
As one of Jamaica’s leading providers of optical services and eyewear products and accessories, Broadbent ensures that only the best eye practitioners look after your eyes with all branches providing the services of either a qualified ophthalmologist and/ or registered optometrist through thorough examinations.
Broadbent caters to every Jamaican face by offering a wide range of frames (colour, shapes and sizes), from high-end designers such as Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger to affordable budget lines. The high quality lenses are produced locally and they also specialise in contact lenses from a number of local and overseas suppliers. With a staff complement of over forty members, plus consultant ophthalmologists and optometrists, Jamaicans are able to benefit from a complete optical service package.
But the vision does not stop here. Broadbent is always ready to support the vision by assisting those in need. And one of the ways in which the brand is standing by their word is by actively assisting the Lion’s Club with their Sight Foundation project at 28 Beechwood Avenue, setting a great partnership and framework for community outreach. Broadbent is also involved in free vision screenings around the island. This is where representatives will visit schools and offices to conduct a short examination to detect visual impairment or eye conditions that may lead to vision loss. Once this is done, a referral is made to one of our professionals for further evaluation and treatment.
Moving forward…
Broadbent remains committed to providing only the best for its customers, so keep an eye out as they provide more locations in the future to serve Jamaica better.
