She’s A Maneater for Pick3 ‘Super Challenge’ Trophy
She’s A Maneater, winner of the Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy, takes aim at another major trophy today.

She’s A Maneater for Pick3 ‘Super Challenge’ Trophy

The most promising juvenile prospects to flower and epitomise the local racing industry will energise and highlight the Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Race Day, headlined by the 10th running of the SVL The Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy at Caymanas Park today.

A colourful racing fiesta and pageantry of 12 races, with the nomenclature of several of the popular betting products offered by the sponsoring company on a daily basis, will proliferate the racing card that will open with the Pick3 Challenge Trophy at 11:30 am and close with the Pick3 Five Play Everyday Trophy at 5:05 pm.

The (Grade III) Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy, a Graded Stakes call for native-bred two-year-olds, has attracted a field of eight of the most advanced juveniles in training, going 1,400 metres for a purse of $3,600,000. The race is the premier event on the card and is scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:30 pm.

The Wayne DaCosta-trained undefeated filly, She’s A Maneater, without question, has shown herself to be a cut above the rest of the field up to her last race on October 15.

Giving such an idyllic performance, the bay filly by Natural Selection out of Ahwhofah (Royal Minister), after winning the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy — the first leg of the SVL Juvenile Triple Series with such authority, is expected to start the deserved favourite to take the second leg and register her third-consecutive win from as many starts.

Her two races to date have been won by a cumulation of 19 ½ widening lengths and, according to trainer DaCosta, “she came out of her last race, the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy, quite good and since then she has been working very well coming into this race”.

Despite winning by almost 20 lengths in her two only starts and beating all of her present rivals before with the exception of Sotomayer, Henry The Second and Very Classic, She’s A Maneater — though better prepared for the longer trip — is expected to have a much closer challenge with which to contend in the call for the second-leg Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy feature.

Money Magnet — bred by Richard Azan and Edison Chai and owned by Nyancomo Stables and also trained by Azan — is expected to be closer this time around with the distance increased, having been bred to get 1,400 metres and beyond.

Money Magnet, though left for dead by She’s A Maneater in the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy, entering the final 400-metre stretch run for home, is expected to be better prepared for the extension to test the resolve of the mercurial filly.

Bebeto Harvey, the leading apprentice, will partner Money Magnet, one of four fillies carded. being a very resourceful rider, with a good horse under his care he can be acid electric when this is being decided.

Sotomayor will be facing this level of competition for the first time and it remains to be seen how well he will cope against these.

Trained by Anthony Nunes for owners David G Miller and Stephan Narinesingh, the grey colt, by Traditional/Runaway Julie, has already accounted for Henry The Second over today’s distance, with a well-timed run under the champion apprentice Linton Steadman that caught Henry The Second napping. A late rally to get him back to his eventual conqueror failed narrowly, however he will have a lot of supporters today.

Henry The Second, one of the most talented sons of Miracle Man out of the Unbridled mare Rebridled Secret — owned by Curragh Jamaica Agency and trained by Ian Parsard — has come on since his last failure. However, with Robert Halledeen remaining in the saddle, an improved performance from the chestnut colt looks very promising.

Henry The Second is bred to get 1,400 metres and beyond and with the previous testing runs over the trip, he should now be primed to deliver a smart performance against his more extablished rivals.

Very Classic, with Shamaree Muir and Lady Faye with Anthony Thomas, may have to await easier opportunities to shine while the DaCosta pair of Armageddon, with Jevvanne Erwin in the saddle, and Mr Universe, the mount of Jerome Innis up, will not be far away for the final rush at the wire.

Another two-year-old race is slotted on the card as seven youngsters will contest the maiden special weight Pick3 Straight Trophy for fillies only over 1,200 metres in the third race. The likely winner will come from the group of Thornhill Miss, Vice Royalty, Great Faith and Mirabilis. Of the horses mentioned, Great Faith ( Forest Danger – May Flower), who was beaten by a half-length on debut by Market Force, should have the beating of these. Tough Cookie could run a surprising race as well. The eighth race, the Pick3 Supreme Trophy among Open Allowance company should also draw some attention, especially with horses trying to get into the ultra-rich Diamond Mile Race on December 10.

The likes of Hover Craft, Dreamcometrue, Prolific Princess, Blue Dixie and Gary Glitter will have all eyes watching their performance. Of the lot, Dreamcometrue has already booked her spot but her performance will have a lot to do with her preparation for the big one. Prolific Princess and Hover Craft occupy spot 15 and 16, respectively, and only need to finish in front ofBlue Dixie and Gary Glitter, who both have to win the race to stand a chance of qualifying. However, the task at hand is difficult for all as they will have the speedy Crucial Appeal to contend with. Although totting top weight of 57.0kgs and with Shane Ellis in the saddle, Crucial Appeal is tipped to make every post a winning one.
