MBU to host struggling Maverly/Hughenden
Red-hot defending champions and leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) will get the opportunity to avenge one of their losses this season when they host promoted and struggling Maverly/Hughenden in a second-round Red Stripe Premier League game at WesPow Park on Sunday, starting at 3:00 pm.
Maverly/Hughenden got off to a flying start, taking advantage of a typically slow-starting MBU to win their opening game 2-1 at WesPow Park, were unbeaten in their first three games.
Also, at Frome on Sunday, Reno FC will host Harbour View, hoping for a second win over the East Kingston team this season after beating them 1-0 in Kingston in the first round.
At WesPow Park, MBU have hit a purple patch, stringing together five straight wins after a loss away to Portmore United and playing without four players who were away on national duties. Their confidence is expected to be high going up against Maverly/Hughenden.
Since their opening-day win, Maverly/Hughenden have managed just one other victory – drawing seven times and losing four – and are in 10th place, two points above the relegation zone.
The Maverly/Hughenden defence that has conceded 17 goals, third most in the competition, will face the MBU offence that has scored 18 goals so far — second best in the league — and will be led by Dino Williams, who has scored in four straight games.
MBU are coming off a big 3-1 win away to Harbour View following back-to-back 2-0 wins over Arnett Gardens, but they will have to find a replacement for defender Jason Watson, who was sent off in the 90th minute, after he picked up a second yellow card in that game.
Reno FC have slipped to seventh place in the points table, on 17 points, and will face a Harbour View team that is two points and a place below them.
Harbour View’s loss to MBU on Sunday snapped a three-game win streak that saw them dragging themselves out of the relegation zone, having picked up 10 points in four games.
Reno FC’s form has dipped over their last two games, losing 1-2 to Tivoli Gardens and then being held 1-1 by a badly slumping Arnett Gardens. The Westmoreland team will be hosts on Sunday and this could be to their advantage.
