Former JDF Chief of Staff Major General Rudolph Green dies at 90
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Major General Rudolph Green died late yesterday at the age of 90, a birthday he celebrated two weeks ago along with most of the past heads of the JDF.
Major General Green, who was the fourth JDF Chief of Staff in independent Jamaica, steered the army through the difficult times of the 1970s and is remembered for his strong emphasis on professionalism within and outside of the JDF.
“Another icon has passed on, following right on the passing of another JDF stalwart Victor Beek,” was how JDF Chief of Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin remembered Green.
Rear Admiral Lewin further stated: “Rudolph Green was a visionary who was always very clear what he wanted for the JDF and its development. Major General Green was very particular about professionalism with the ranks of the JDF. We have lost a true Jamaican”.
Green was the first Jamaican soldier to be conferred with the rank of Major General, as previously, all the heads of the JDF were ranked as Brigadiers.
Major General Green was a freemason who was well respected for his charitable work. He was last seen at a freemason installation last Monday.
