Anthony Patrick takes over coaching duties at Maverley/Hughenden
Anthony Patrick, the former Waterhouse FC enduring coach, has moved across to neighbours Maverley-Hughenden FC and took control of the team with his first coaching session yesterday morning.
A very large gathering of supporters converged at the Maverley training ground to watch the team, which turned out in full force and on time, go through their paces under the watchful eyes of the new coach. Following a hectic early morning training session with the players, coach Patrick asked the players for two abiding qualities: that of being “disciplined and committed”.
Maverley/Hughenden are at present sitting precariously on 13 points, two points above the drop zone, but according to Patrick, “There is enough good quality in the team to take us out of this rut and put us in a competitive position. A total of 57 points are still there to be had from the remaining matches and with a forthright application and commitment, we can still gather in a significant number of those points to put us in a challenging position. But we can only get there through working much harder than we are accustomed,” Patrick said.
While at Waterhouse as head coach, Patrick kept the Drewsland-based team in the top four position of the Red Stripe Premier League for three consecutive seasons and made it once to the CFU Club Championships.
