Message from Public Accountancy Board President
The Public Accountancy Board (PAB) salutes PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as the firm achieves the major milestone of celebrating its one hundredth anniversary. One of the premier professional firms in the Caribbean, it has delivered on its mandate of providing excellent Audit and Assurance services to Jamaica. It has the distinction of serving a blue chip portfolio of clients, several being pre-eminent in the public and private sectors and several outside of Jamaica.
Ever since its early years of existence, initially as a partnership of Ralph Carman and James Bruce, the firm which after many significant changes is now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers, was and still is an excellent training ground for accountants, many of whom have gone on to launch their own successful firms or to become prominent leaders in many major Jamaican businesses. In achieving their success, they have relied on the knowledge, skill and penchant for excellence that they honed at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Jamaica can be proud of this Organization, a major contributor to national development having grown organically from very small beginnings, surviving the stresses and strains that the emerging Jamaican economy has experienced and still remain strong. Jamaican has benefited tremendously from the facilities provided to young aspirants to the accounting profession who have found at PwC an excellent training ground. It’s training seminars for the broader private sector are sought after and valued by hundreds of finance professionals and business persons.
The Board notes that the firm has had the foresight and energy to diversify and enhance its scope of service delivery to include a wide range of business advisory services, including taxation, corporate finance, change management and risk and controls, thereby leverage its vaunted expertise in accountancy.
Admirably, PricewaterhouseCoopers has also facilitated many of its staff and partners contributing to the nation- building through public service in different capacities and membership of several public sector boards, including the PAB.
The Public Accountancy Board recognizes that PwC is amongst a number of firms that have achieved a satisfactory rating on its first review under the Board’s Practice Monitoring Programme. This certification is the hallmark of sound accounting practice which meets international standards. The PAB congratulates PWC on this signal achievement.
The Board extends its best wishes to PWC for its continued growth and success.
