Make using cellphones while driving an offence!
Dear Editor,
I am pleading to the relevant authorities to make haste to implement the law against people who insist on texting and speaking on their cellphones while driving. Motorists should desist from using their phones while driving.
Quite often, I have seen people become distracted because of using the phone while driving. This puts road users at risk.
Driving must not be taken for granted; driving is a skill.
Many times it becomes obvious drivers are distracted because of the way they are driving. Recently I was at the traffic light at the intersection of Balmoral and Maxfield avenues when the light changed to green. I observed a motor vehicle continue straight through the red, instead of waiting his turn. I quickly drove up to his car and asked the drive, “What kind of drive that?” His response was, “Sorry, mi boss, mi never realise.” And I have encountered other incidents similar to that one. Drivers cannot afford to be distracted.
I think we should lobby Parliament for this new law to be passed against this bad habit.
