Traffic changes planned for Santa Cruz, Christiana
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Effective Monday, December 19, the National Works Agency (NWA) will be making changes to traffic arrangements in the town of Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth and Christiana in Manchester.
A one-way system is being implemented in both towns in order to reduce traffic congestion and minimize delays, and will continue through to January 2, 2017, the NWA said.
Motorists entering Santa Cruz, travelling from the direction of Mandeville will encounter the one-way system from the intersection of Coke Drive, Institution Drive and Main Street.
Motorists travelling from Coke Drive will have no right turn at the intersection.
People wishing to exit that area must do so at the intersection of Main Street, Retirement Road and the Bypass or via Market Street, the NWA said in a release.
Motorists entering Santa Cruz from the direction of Lacovia should turn left at the traffic light at the intersection of Main Street and the bypass. No right turn will be allowed onto Market Street from this direction. Right turning movement from the direction of Lacovia will be allowed at Institution Drive in order for motorists to enter Main Street.
Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Southern Region, Howard Hendriks, said that left turning movement will be allowed at the intersection of Institution Drive, Main Street and Coke Drive from the direction of the bypass.
Motorists wishing to travel towards Malvern can use Retirement Road or travel to the end of the Bypass, turn right at the Total Gas Station and turn left on Centre Road.
Hendriks said that the one-way system will be in operation between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 pm Mondays to Saturdays.
Meanwhile in Christiana, Main Street, from its intersection of the bypass at Apple Tree Plaza will accommodate only motorists heading into the town from the direction Mandeville/Chudleigh.
Motorists heading from the direction of Craig Head/Lorimers will also have to enter the town from the intersection of the bypass and Main Street at Apple Tree Plaza.
No right turning movement will be allowed from Webb Road and Wildman Street onto Main Street. All vehicles heading from these directions into the town will only be allowed a left turning movement.
Nevermine Road in the vicinity of the Christiana High School will be used as an exit route from the town.
No access will be allowed into the town from the bypass using Nevermine Road. Left turning movement will also be restricted from Jones Lane, Azan Lane and Moravia Road onto Main Street. All vehicles heading from these directions into the town will only be allowed a right turning movement.
