OPA! How it all began
The concept of OPA! Greek Restaurant and Lounge was born in July of 2013. We opened with a bang on November 20, 2013. Our guests of honour that night were then Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, and the previous United States Ambassador, Her Excellency Pamela Bridgewater. The idea of opening the only Greek restaurant in Jamaica was exciting; however this was not our only drive. We saw an opportunity to offer something unique to the market. Though offering Greek food is a unique niche we were more enthused about offering service that measure up to international standards. We were very selective in our choice of décor and layout, so as to offer our customers an atmosphere that is comfortable, relaxing and fun filled. Essentially our greatest aspiration in the operation of OPA is to consistently offer total satisfaction to our guests.
OPA! is the brainchild of Alexx Antaeus and Orlease King, Antaeus being Greek and King, Jamaican. The two collaborated ideas from their respective ethnic cultures as well as their professional backgrounds to create their dream eatery. A combination of culinary mastery and restaurant management, along with professional customer service expertise and keen eye for detail have made them a great team on this mission.
The company currently employs nearly thirty workers, all of whom are Jamaicans. We are also very strong on supporting the local community, therefore most of our raw materials and products are provided through local farmers and businesses. We do however, import our Greek wines and beers. Furthermore, we offer a wine list that features over seventy wines from every wine-producing region in the world.
At Opa! we are passionate about Greek food and fun. Come try our Spanakopita (Spinach Pie), Kotosouvlaki (Grilled Chicken Fillet Skewers) or Kotsi (Lamb Shank) paired with one of our Greek wines or Greek beers, the ONLY place in Jamaica to find these curiosities as well as Greek liquors like Metaxa brandy and Ouzo. Authentic Greek Cuisine remains OPA’s speciality. However, to offer more variety to our customers we have recently added some Jamaican dishes such as Ackee Burger, Portland Spicy Pork Stew and our Royal Steamed Fish.
