Chant Down Babylon again
THERE will be a sequel to Chant Down Babylon, the 1999 album that heard Bob Marley on digital duets with some of hip hop’s biggest names.
Stephen Marley, Marley’s son, told the Jamaica Observer that production on the project will likely start in 2017.
He said the second instalment will have a different flavour.
“It won’t be urban. Wi looking at something more musical, like Stevie Wonder playing harmonica on two songs an’ Eric Clapton playing guitar,” Marley disclosed.
Wonder was a big Marley fan. He visited Jamaica in 1975 and performed at the National Stadium in St Andrew with the Wailers. His admiration for the reggae star inspired Wonder to record two reggae songs — Boogie On Reggae Woman and Master Blaster (Jammin’).
Clapton, one of the most influential guitarists in rock, covered Marley’s I Shot The Sheriff in 1974. His version went number one in the United States.
For Chant Down Babylon, Stephen Marley paired his father with Erykah Badu on No More Trouble, Rakim onConcrete Jungle, Busta Rhymes & Flipmode Squad on Rastaman Chant, and Lauryn Hill on Turn Your Lights Down Low.
The last was a hit on Billboard’s R&B chart.
Chant Down Babylon sold over 500,000 units in the US and was certified gold.
