Keen tussle
CLARK’S TOWN, Trelawny — Three teams will seek to extend their perfect starts when the Jamaica Football Federation’s Western Confederation Charlie’s JB Rum Super League continues this afternoon with a full slate of six matches, all set to start at 3:00pm.
Clarks Town in Zone 1, as well as Sandals South Coast and Montego Bay Boys’ Club, have won both games played so far and will be hoping to close the year with a perfect record, as the competition will take a break until Sunday, January 8.
Clarks Town will host a Reggae Youths team at Cedric Titus High, Sandals South Coast host a slow-starting Wadadah FC in Whitehouse, while Montego Bay Boys Club will play Petersfield at the UDC field in one of three games scheduled for Montego Bay.
Beaches Negril — unbeaten after two games — will also travel to face defending champions Granville United at the Granville Community Centre’s playing field.
Clarks Town could have a tough game on their hands when they take on a Reggae Youths team that is coming off a 4-3 win over Granville on Saturday, just days after earning a 2-2 draw away to Beaches Negril.
Lupton Haughton, who scored a hat-trick in their opening-day 3-2 win over Three Miles River, is expected to lead the Clarks Town attack along with Devroy Campbell, while O’Carey Spence and Oshane Thompson, both of whom have scored doubles so far, should lead Reggae Youths as they seek their first away win this season.
Beaches Negril will face a Granville United team that will be smarting from their loss on Saturday, after being held goalless against newcomers Hopewell United.
Granville United will be desperate for a win and will hope home field advantage will work for them against Beaches Negril, who whipped Three Miles River 4-1 on Saturday and is the most prolific scoring team so far with six goals.
Sandals South Coast have made a great start with two wins and face a Wadadah FC team that is still searching for their first point. The Montego Bay team have conceded four goals in two games played.
The first job for the Donovan Ricketts-coached Wadadah FC will be to stop conceding goals, but they face a tough team that is loaded with goalscorers.
Montego Bay Boys Club are off to their best start ever and will hope to make it three in a row when they host Petersfield FC at the UDC field, where they will have home field advantage.
Meanwhile, newcomers Faulkland FC are coming off their first win and will host Holland United, who lost both games played so far; while the promoted Three Miles River and Hopewell FC will meet at Frome, as the former seek their first win.
