Rondell delivers Positive message
GOSPEL singer Rondell Positive served up more than songs in his closing performance at the recent staging of Colours In Praise: After Exam Flex held at the St Andrew High School for Girls in Kingston.
The singer, who began his set with his 2012 single
Goodbye World, had his audience in a sing-along before he proceeded to preach.
“We are trying to get the young people to shift from the old thing. This gathering is about the King, it’s not Sunday morning where you socialise, because that’s what church has become,” he declared.
His words were interspersed with a rendition of
Most High, which had many patrons adopting worship postures, and speaking in tongues.
Rondell Positive finished with more preaching then renditions of
More Than a Conqueror, Cover Me, andI’ll Never Change.
Jamaica College student Mario Johnson said he enjoyed the inaugural ‘After Exam Flex’.
“It was great from a teen’s point of view. Rondell was great he closed the show well; an enjoyable experience,” he said.
Patron Kenrick Bogle gave organisers a thumbs up.
“The event was a good one. There were a lot of attractions and sights that were welcoming. The venue was set up quite well and everything, including the equipment, seemed to work just fine without problems. For an initiative that has just been started I would give them a 9 out of 10. Though there were a few mix-ups here and there, the event went well and ran smooth. It was truly a great experience,” he said, adding that Rondell was “amazing; he brought vibe and flavour to the event.”
Byron Buckley, public relations officer for Spring Praise Jamaica – event organisers, said they are satisfied with how the event unfolded.
“We didn’t get the crowd that we expected, but it was the first event and we were more concerned about making sure the quality was there. The quality of the messaging for the entire evening programme was high quality. Rondell really got the crowd going,” Buckley told the Jamaica Observer.
Earlier in the evening, sibling duo Anovah Love Jones made an appearance and was well-received. DJ Marlon Young was on turntables while the praise and worship segment was led by the JC and Calabar Inter-School Christian Fellowships. There was also a Fashion and Decorum show, featuring designs from high school students and teachers.
