My Kingston — Greg Tannis

GREG TANNIS — New York City-based Assistant Vice-President, Internal Audit, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust & Banking Corporation

What are your earliest memories of Kingston?

During the Easter break of my final year at UWI, St Augustine, I visited with one of my best friends and remember thinking “such a beautiful island and Lord, these people party too much!”

What’s the most memorable meal that you have enjoyed in Kingston?

What’s the most memorable meal that you have enjoyed in Kingston?

Tastee patty (beef, of course) and a cold Ting. Still have it every time I visit.

What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?

I ‘m a huge dancehall music fan. So, as clichéd as it may sound, I would put on a major concert with the biggest genre acts. I for one would be quite pleased.

What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?

What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?

Ignore the media bias and stereotypes, while still being careful. I’ve found Kingston to be a metropolis with island sensibilities and beautiful, lively, people.

What’s the best way to look for something, without losing all your marbles in the process?

I’m a certified public accountant and start any engagement by organising the information into small manageable chunks. This approach helps me in daily life, as well. If I take on too much too quickly, I immediately get overwhelmed.

How would you describe the ability of disposable income has to empower?

How would you describe the ability of disposable income has to empower?

As something to be grateful for.

Does the cheapskate ultimately win or lose?

Does the cheapskate ultimately win or lose?

That really depends. If it’s for his or her necessities, then no. For their desires, however, absolutely.

Quickest way to ruin a party for you?

Quickest way to ruin a party for you?

No dancehall music! I’m joking. Poor energy or vibe. I don’t need a turn-up, just good, fun people.

You’re an avid marathoner. Curate a short music playlist to open 2017.

I usually start with something upbeat, typically soca and dancehall — Vybz Kartel is my guy. Mid-race is more mellow — alternative, some R&B, and pop, and to bring it home, my power songs are

BLKKK SKKKN HEAD by Kanye, and Katy Perry’sRoar.

The holiday after the holiday: how do you reset your buttons for your reality re-entry?

Though I’m a social creature, I like my alone time. So I’ll usually go off by myself just to decompress and regroup.
