Ansord Hewitt appointed OUR director general
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Attorney at Law Ansord Hewitt has been appointed director general of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR).
Hewitt, who began his tenure on January 1, was appointed by the Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen and is to serve for three years, OUR reported today.
Hewitt succeeds Albert Gordon, who demitted office at the end of October 2016.
According to an OUR release , Hewitt, who was formerly the OUR’s Director of Regulation, Policy, Monitoring and Enforcement (RPME), has over 25 years experience working and providing leadership at various levels in quasi-judicial organisations.
His tertiary education spans law, management, and economics; and he has extensive specialised training in regulation, competition analysis, strategic planning, leadership, international negotiation and corporate planning, the OUR said.
OUR Chairman Joseph Matalon extended congratulations to Hewitt on his appointment. Matalon also reaffirmed the “continued commitment of all members of the office to support the director general and to ensure that under his leadership the OUR will continue to perform its regulatory functions with efficiency and with keen regard to the public interest.”
Hewitt joined the OUR in February 2000, where he served in several positions, including Economist, Manager of Regulatory Affairs, Secretary to the Office (the first such) and most recently, the Director of RPME. Prior to joining the OUR, he worked at the Jamaica Bauxite Institute and the Fair Trading Commission as an economist.
