Royal Caribbean sued over deadly J’can crash

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Eight tourists who survived a deadly four-vehicle collision in Trelawny last January have filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Cruises.

They are claiming that the cruise line failed to provide a safe excursion, according to US media reports.

Local police at the time reported that a Toyota Coaster bus transporting the passengers was travelling along the Carey Park main road towards Falmouth when the driver of a Freightliner motor truck, travelling in the opposite direction, failed to keep left and collided with the Coaster bus, which overturned.

The impact resulted in the death of one of the passengers, later identified as 32-year-old Crystal Glewwe.

However, the tourists claimed in their lawsuit that the driver continuously changed lanes while speeding.

According to TMZ, when the passengers asked the driver to slow down, he reportedly said that he was driving “the way everyone typically drove in Jamaica”.

However, the surviving tourists stated in the lawsuit that the excursion group’s driver had a slow reaction to a vehicle that had entered their lane and the bus was subsequently broadsided, causing it to flip multiple times.

The driver of the bus and a tour guide were hospitalised, while the surviving passengers were treated and released.
