JUTC chairman resigns, bus company to start search to fill post
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Desmond Gregory Mair, has resigned from the post.
OBSERVER ONLINE understands that a meeting is scheduled for this afternoon at the Ministry of Transport, Hagley Park Road, Kingston, at which Minster Mike Henry and senior public service staff will discuss the issue, after which a news release will be issued.
However, it seems unlikely that Mair will withdraw his decision, and the minister is poised to start searching soon for a new chairman.
The current board comprises: Mair (chairman); Paul Abrahams (acting managing director); Clement Ellington; Shane Dalling; Max Leiba; Errol Edwards; Ian Murray; Richard DePass; Bancroft Thomas; Sean Azan; Albert Seaga; and, Theresa Turner.
Mair, a former MP for North East St Catherine, is a businessman involved in insurance brokerage and housing developer. Abrahams, his most likely successor, previously served as managing director of the JUTC from 2009 to 2012.
