PNP’s Sylvan Reid sworn-in as Salt Spring councillor
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) Sylvan Reid was sworn-in as councillor for the Salt Spring Division in Montego Bay today, during the regular monthly meeting of the St James Municipal Corporation.
Reid was not among the other 16 successful candidates in the November-28 Local Government Elections who were sworn in at a ceremony held at the Montego Bay Cultural Centre last month, as his division was the subject of a magisterial recount.
In the final count Reid was declared the winner by five votes, but the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) decided to challenge the results in the court.
Following the magisterial recount, Reid, who has been the councillor for the division since 2011, was declared the winner, defeating the JLP’s Gregory Harris by two votes.
Reid amassed 1, 049 to Harris’ 1047.
