Jamaican bobsleigh team seeks funding to hire coach
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Jamaican bobsleigh team has set up a GoFundme account to raise US$60,000 in order to hire a coach, as it seeks a place in the Winter Olympics, just over a year away in South Korea.
The team said that it is working as hard as possible, however they are missing a coach.
The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics will mark the 30th anniversary, since the team’s Calgary debut.
“With a coach on staff we believe we can not only contend for a medal, but also bring a medal home, and commemorate this outstanding achievement,” the team said on the GoFundme page.
The members said they “have the talent, the discipline and the determination, needed to contend in the 2018 Winter Olympics,” and are asking for support in raising sufficient funds to hire a coach.
A “coach is there to guide you, challenge you and push you when you think you have nothing more to give. They believe in you, when you don’t believe in yourself,” the team said.
The Jamaican bobsleigh team made its Winter Olympic Games debut in 1988 in Calgary, Canada, which inspired the 1993 film Cool Runnings.
