Xaymaca International set to soar
NEW carnival player, Xaymaca International, launched their road march costume offerings at a cooler fete held at Constant Spring Golf Club in St Andrew, last Saturday.“This is the year of revolution. This is the year when carnival will explode,” Andrew Bellamy, director of Xaymaca International, told the
Jamaica Observer at the launch.Bellamy said Xaymaca International was his brainchild, as he wanted to bring about new ideas to the local carnival space.“When I looked at the trajectory that carnival in Jamaica was on, I realised there was a need for fresh ideas that were in line with international carnival trends. So I contacted some of the most influential persons that I know can facilitate the growth of carnival in Jamaica,” he said.To this end, Bellamy said his team comprises carnival event promoters: Ian Bourne of I Love Soca; Akil Strachan and Steven Lofters principals of Soca vs Dancehall; Kandi King conceptualiser of Karnival by Kandi; disc jock Richard ‘DJ Richie RAS’ Spence and Mark Lalor. Dean Ackin, CEO of Tribe, one of the top bands in Trinidad and Tobago, rounds out the team.“Tribe are influencers in the evolution of carnival in Trinidad with new innovations incorporated in every staging of the event annually. Therefore, the shared expertise in costume production, pre-road march quality service delivery, and providing premium entertainment value throughout the carnival season are among the major elements of the Xaymaca/Tribe partnership,” said Bellamy. The director was quick to point out the history before him and praised the entities which have been flying the carnival flag high. He believes his company will expand the carnival audience, not splinter it; leading to a better spectacle overall for the industry and the country as a whole.“We can move the current numbers of 4,000 to 15,000 in two years together,” he said. While being coy, Bellamy has no doubt that Xaymaca will have an impact.“Individually, we were all offering solid premium products. However, all our directors have travelled to other carnivals, done our research, so we’re going to combine that,” he said.Meanwhile, at the event, Xaymaca International debuted their eight road march costumes.“We will be offering the sexiest costumes with the most aesthetically pleasing options for masqueraders of all body types and nationalities, designed and marketed by the best and most talented designers from Jamaica and the Caribbean region,” said Kandi King, co-director.Costumes were being sold at the event and can be ordered online for the April 23 road march in the Corporate Area.
