Reggae Youths host Clark’s Town in Western Confed Super League
TUCKER, St James — Joint Zone One leaders Reggae Youths and Clark’s Town FC will meet at Wespow Park in Tucker, St James, today in the feature game of a full slate of matches in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charlie’s JB Rum Super League.
With the Red Stripe Premier League on a break, the organisers have taken the opportunity to play a full slate of games in one day, only the second time this will happen since the start of the competition in mid-December.
Reggae Youths edge Clark’s Town on goal difference with both teams tied on 14 points at the top of Zone One.
Zone Two leaders Sandals South Coast will face an improving Wadadah FC at Jarrett Park starting at 5:00 pm, while second-placed Montego Bay Boys Club are away to a badly slumping Petersfield FC in Westmoreland, and defending champions Granville United will be on the road against Beaches Negril at Long Bay Beach Park.
Clark’s Town are unbeaten in four games since losing 1-2 at home to Reggae Youths and will be hoping to return the favour on the small Wespow Park training field.
Reggae Youths will, however, be hoping to extend their perfect home record to four wins, and with O’Carey Spence, Santino Grinnion and Oshane Thompson combining for 12 of their 13 goals — all expected to line up today — the home team will be expecting another three points.
Sandals South Coast, who lost in the final on penalty kicks last season, are running away with Zone Two and lead second-placed Montego Bay Boys Club by four points, but face a Wadadah FC that have not lost in their last three games after losing their first four.
Sandals South Coast had won the first-round game 1-0 at home, but despite being 12 points ahead of the Montego Bay team, they will be facing a different team from the one they did in the first round.
The Aaron Lawrence-coached Sandals South Coast are coming off a close 3-2 win over Petersfield, while Wadadah FC had edged Faulkland FC 1-0 and have only conceded one goal in their last three games.
Boys Club had failed to break down Petersfield FC in the first round at the UDC field that ended 0-0, but that was the last point the Westmoreland team earned as they have since lost their other four games.
Despite being in second place, Boys Club have done just enough to win games and have scored more than one goal in only two of their seven games played so far, and could be made to work hard for anything they are to get today.
Granville United are not enjoying a good season and are five points off the lead in Zone One and have conceded nine goals, as many as they have scored so far, and will hope to get the better of the Beaches Negril team they beat 3-0 in the first round.
After being beaten at home 0-3 by promoted Three Miles River, Granville United responded with a win and a loss and will hope their form will extend to this afternoon.
Meanwhile, promoted Faulkland FC have struggled badly this season and have lost their last three games, first time in the club’s short history, and will be away to Holland United who they spanked 6-2 in the first round.
At Orchard playfield, Hopewell FC will host Three Miles River in a meeting of promoted teams and will hope they can avenge a 1-3 loss in the first round.
