Olympic Gardens big winners in Jackie Bell KO
Skipper Ryan Miller scored a fabulous 107th-minute, extra time goal from a dead-ball situation that rescued Cavalier SC from the shackles of Duhaney Park FC, to advance to the third round of the JN VISA/KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout with a 1-0 win at the Bell/Chung Oval on Saturday.
Also advancing to the third round are Barbican FC, who dismissed Real Mona FC 3-1; Central Kingston FC; who sneaked past Police National 3-2; Olympic Gardens, who swept Mountain View FC off their legs 4-1; and Bull Bay FC who edged Brown’s Town 1-0.
The five winning teams will now join the other seven KSAFA teams now campaigning in the Jamaica Football Federation Red Stripe Premier League in the third round of the competition.
At Bell/Chung Oval, a sterling performance from the Major League-campaigning Duhaney Park FC brought a fair comment from winning coach Rudolph Speid in his post-match response. “I must congratulate Duhaney Park for a good game, they really played well.”
His Duhaney Park counterpart, Darrington Ferguson was also pleased with his team’s performance. “This was expected of us. This is why we are here, it was to perform. Jackie was a great lover of the sport and would have been pleased with such a performance. So be it. But the Jackie Bell is now behind us. We are fourth-placed in the Major League competition at present and are now going to concentrate our attention on the league,” Ferguson added.
Romario Harding led the way for Central Kingston with a brace, as Renaldo Henry added the third for 3-2 victory over Police National FC. Akeem Forth also had a brace to add to Romeo Nelson and an own goal in Olympic Gardens FC’s 4-1 win over Mountain View FC, for whom Antonio Russell grabbed the consolation.
Dwayne Muir notched the all-important goal in Bull Bay’s 1-0 win over Brown’s Town, while Kemar Thomas, Ramone McGregor and Shaquille Lewis were on target for Barbican in their 3-1 triumph over Real Mona.
