Beenie’s Romie gets new twist
Twenty years after its release, Romie by Beenie Man has been sampled by American rapper Big Sean on his song Bigger Than Me.
This is the second Beenie Man song sampled by a high-profile rapper within a year. Last April, Canadian rapper Drake sampled Big Sean, who is signed to Kanye West’s Good Music label, is known for hits such as He has won two BET Awards and six BET Hip Hop Awards.
Bigger Than Me is the 14th track on Big Sean’s fourth album I Decided (Good Music/Def Jam), which was released by Good Music/Def Jam) on February 3.
Romie was recorded in 1996 and released in 1997. It was produced by Shocking Vibes Productions and made Beenie Man’s album, Maestro, a Grammy nominee for Best Reggae Album.
This is the second Beenie Man song sampled by a high-profile rapper within a year. Last April, Canadian rapper Drake sampled Tear Off Mi Garment for the track Controlla which reached number 16 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart and number five on the R&B Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
Big Sean, who is signed to Kanye West’s Good Music label, is known for hits such as My Last (with Chris Brown),Marvin And Chardonnay (featuring West) and Beware (with Lil Wayne and Jhene Aiko).
He has won two BET Awards and six BET Hip Hop Awards.
