Green Pond High gets new computers to assist tech students
STAFF members of Green Pond High School in Montego Bay, St James, were in high spirits yesterday after receiving eight desktop computers and desks courtesy of the Sandals Foundation.
They were also presented with two laptops from Sandals Montego Bay’s multi-repeat guest, Jay Young.
Sandals Montego Bay’s General Manager Carl Beviere, who is also a member of the school board, handed over the items in the presence of the Minister of Education Ruel Reid and other dignitaries.
A total of 10 computers were added to the institution’s multimedia and design room, resulting in a total of 25 that are fully functional for the students’ use. These will be programmed to feature autoCAD — a computer-aided drafting software program used for creating blueprints for buildings and other infrastructure — to facilitate more than 50 students who have expressed an interest in the technical fields of architecture and engineering. Teachers said the training with the use of computers will assist students in preparation for their Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations.
