The ‘Princess’ is Trainer says he was always confident of victory
Although creating a mild upset at odds of 6-1 in the Ash Wednesday Trophy feature, trainer Neive Graham says he was a 110 per cent confident that his five-year-old chestnut mare Prolific Princess would win the Overnight Allowance event over six-and-a-half-furlongs (1,300m).
Prolific Princess was held off the pace by Omar Walker asTalented Tony K (Ameth Robles) took charge of the race overDancing Queen (Oneil Mullings) andBirdie My Love (formerlyBird Catcher), under Anthony Thomas.
When
Talented Tony K increased his lead at the half-mile,Prolific Princess hugged the inside rails and began to round horses, getting into a striking position. In the stretch run,Talented Tony K shortened as expected leaving four horses,Prolific Princess on the inside,Dancing Queen on her outside,Birdie My Love three wide andChace The Great going six wide to sort out the winner’s position.
With no quarter given,
Prolific Princess was able to get her head in front at the wire, winning by a short head fromBird My Love with Dancing Queen another half-length in third.
Graham said that after
Prolific Princess’ preparation coming into the race, defeat was never in question and winning was the only aim.
“After the Diamond Mile last year,
Prolific Princess returned and ran one other race going 1,200 metres and the performance was not up to par.
“Then one morning she galloped five-and-a-half-furlongs in 1:06 and change and that showed me that she was back to herself, so I was very confident about the race today (Wednesday).
“She has beaten this class already. We will see how she finishes out the season,” Graham said.
