Catherine Hall extend lead in Sandals Super League
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Catherine Hall FC extended their lead in Zone One of the St James Football Association Sandals International Senior League on Friday after beating Mountain Villa 4-1 in their return-round game at Spot Valley High.
Kemario Murdock scored two goals — one in either half — to double his tally of the season as Catherine Hall improved to 13 points, five more than second-placed Heights FC, both from five games.
Zone Two leaders Seba FC, who are mourning the sudden death of former Coach Edwin Alcock earlier in the day, lost for the first time, giving up an early lead and going down 2-1 to MoBay City FC at the UDC field.
Alcock, nicknamed “Fairyboots” because of his skill with the ball, and who represented the national team in the 1970s collapsed and died while visiting a friend on Friday.
At Spot Valley, Ricardo Taylor gave Catherine Hall the lead after just three minutes, while Murdock got his first in the 27th minute and Javern Palmer made it 3-0 in the 34th.
Oraine Braham pulled one goal back for Mountain Villa in the 52nd minute, while Murdock completed his brace in the 90th minute.
At the UDC field, Luwayne Sharpe gave Seba FC the lead in the ninth minute, but Roshane Spence equalised in the 29th and Renardo Wellington scored the winner in the 74th minute for MoBay City FC’s first win of the season to put them on six points and into third place.
Seba FC are still leaders despite the first loss of the season, having three more points than Melbourne Mind Game FC.
