Another member of ‘One Voice’ gang killed — police
HANOVER, Jamaica — The threat level against the Hanover police remains high following the fatal shooting of another man who police claim is associated with the ‘One Voice’ gang operating in that parish.
Saturday night’s shooting of Winston Swaroop follows the killing of Omario ‘Duplex’ Burrell, a senior member of the ‘One Voice’ gang on the night of February 3 in a shoot-out with the lawmen.
The Hanover police are reporting that Swaroop was a financier of the gang.
OBSERVER ONLINE understands that shortly after 9:00 pm on Saturday, members of the security force were on patrol in the Williamsfield, Dias area of the Parish when two men on a motorcycle were signalled to stop.
The police said one of the men opened fire at them and they returned fire, hitting the driver. The pillion reportedly escaped but it is not clear if he was hurt.
The police said they recovered a 9 mm pistol with five live rounds from the deceased.
In February, the police had reported that Burrell was named in a triple killing in Williamsfield, which included a toddler.
The Williamsfield shootings were done in separate incidents on January 18. The deceased were identified as 34-year-old Hopeton Lee, Kimani Johnson, aged five, and one-year-old Daquan Davidson.
A senior police officer told OBSERVER ONLINE that lawmen have been receiving threats since Burrell’s killing.
Meanwhile, a St James man was on Sunday shot and injured by unknown assailants in Hanover.
Reports are that the man, who is on bail, was shot in the community of Hog Bush, Haughton Court about 3:00 am.
The man, who the police claimed is of a ‘criminal character’, was recently released from police custody on bail after another person took responsibility for a gun found in a car in which he was travelling last year, the lawmen reported.
