Heavy waves force closure of Orange Bay to Windsor Castle road in Portland
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says that the Orange Bay to Windsor Castle main road, in the vicinity of the tax office in Buff Bay, Portland, has been closed with immediate effect due to significant erosion caused by the inclement weather.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw in a release a short while ago said that strong wave action has resulted in a section of the sea wall being undermined.
“This has left a cavity under approximately half of the section of the roadway and local NWA officers have cordoned off the affected area,” Shaw said.
Resulting from the closure, motorists travelling from the direction of Buff Bay Square to Port Antonio are being advised to use East Norman Lane then onto Lynch Park Road, exiting beside the sports complex. The reverse will obtain for people travelling from Port Antonio.
