MBU’s veteran Ambusely contemplates coaching position with Rusea’s

Montego Bay United’s captain Dwayne Ambusley will get the chance to realise another of his dreams having jumped at the offer to join newly appointed Rusea’s High daCosta Cup coach Vassell Reynolds, he told Jamaica Observer last weekend.

Reynolds, who guided Wolmer’s Boys’ up to this past ISSA schoolboys football season, has taken over from Aaron Lawrence as the coach of the 10-time daCosta Cup champions and extended an invitation to Ambusley to be part of his technical team.

On Friday, Ambusley, who at 35 years old, was this year included in the national senior set-up for the first time, said the offer “was more than tempting”.

After MBU’s 5-0 win over Cayman Island club Elite Sports Club in their Caribbean Football Union Caribbean Club Championships Group C game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, Ambusley told the

Observer, “it is a dream come true”.

“It’s a dream that I have been living with for some time. It’s like Real Madrid come calling; no one can refuse that,” he said.

Ambusley, who represented Rusea’s High in the daCosta Cup but came up short of a title, envisions helping to return the Hanover school to the top of schoolboy football.

“I did not do it as a player, but maybe I can be part of winning trophies with my alma mater,” he said.

Taking up the offer could mean ending his Premier League stint with Montego Bay United, and the only link left to the former Seba United, as he is the only player or coach left on the MBU roster who was with Seba United when they earned promotion back to the top league in the 2011-2012 season.

But he said if he decided to step down, he hoped he would still be able to continue at MBU in some role, even as an assistant coach.

“Football is life; I won’t stop playing, maybe I will be part of MBU in some coaching role, I could play some Masters League football,” Ambusley noted.

He says MBU still have a lot of work left to do this season.

“We are upbeat and optimistic as usual and looking forward to another title at the end of the season… this season is the most difficult for me in terms of the expectations I just want to finish on a high and try and nurture the younger players who will be taking over,” Ambusley ended.
