The United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is the only United Nations agency with a mandate on Higher Education. In a thrust to support the realisation of the current major global Education Agenda for 2030, notably the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), UNESCO recognises that higher education must be a key priority.

Quality assurance and the maintenance of reputable and equitable higher education monitoring systems are integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNESCO believes that young men and women which are at risk or disadvantaged must have sustainable inclusion policies that allow for their access to higher education across all Caribbean countries.

UNESCO would like to congratulate the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) on the celebration of their 12th Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education Week which promotes the achievement of world class higher education principles.
