St James Cricket Association 40-over finalists known Sunday
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The finalists in the St James Cricket Association’s Heroy Clarke-sponsored 40-over competition will be decided this Sunday following the playing of the fourth round of matches.
Green Pond, who lead the standings with 15 points after three straight wins, will host Rosemount (on 10 points) in one game; Thompson Street and Police, who are tied on 10 points each, will meet at Barnett Oval.
Cornwall College and Water Lane, who are yet to win a game, will end their schedule when they meet at Spot Valley High.
Green Pond chalked up their third-straight win last week, just getting by Water Lane by five runs at Green Pond.
Sent in to bat, Green Pond made 120 all out off 21.5 overs, then restricted Water Lane to 115 all out off 23.5 overs, batting two short.
Errol Martin led Green Pond with 37 runs, while Okeem Whyte added 20 against Hodwaine Davis and Damion Douglas, who both took four wickets each.
Douglas led a brave Water Lane response with 44 runs as Verome Martin took three wickets for 26 and Martin two for 20 off six overs.
Police beat Rosemount by seven wickets in a low-scoring game at Spot Valley, as after losing the toss and being sent in, Rosemount were held to just 69 off 19.4 overs. Kenroy Haughton took seven wickets for 14 runs off 9.4 overs and Nolayne Mitchell took three wickets for 32 off his 10 overs.
Police then raced to 70 for three off just 8.2 overs, Renardo Clarke and Nahroo James both making 27 runs.
Thompson Street stayed in contention for a place in the final after an easy 120-run win over the Cornwall College schoolboys, as they first made 215 for nine off 35.5 overs then bowled out Cornwall College for 95.
Tyrone Johnson made 89 to lead Thompson Street and Omar Romans got 42 against Orlando Christie’s three for 35 off six overs and Ricardo Scott’s two for 12 off 4.5 overs.
Christopher Watson then bagged five wickets for 21 off his 10 overs and Maurice Ellis took two for seven runs off three overs, as only Christie got into double figures with 27.
