Golden Touch look to extend lead in Westmoreland Major League football
SAV-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — Golden Touch could increase their lead in Zone One of the Westmoreland Football Association Charlie’s JB Rum/Dujon’s Construction/Captain’s Bakery and Grill Major League today with a win over Russia FC in the first game of a rescheduled double-header at Bay Road Sports Complex starting at 1:00 pm.
Golden Touch are on seven points, two more than Roaring River FC, after they drew 1-1 on Friday, and a win today would see them open a five-point lead.
In the second game, Forever Sports could also take over the lead in Zone Two with a win over Hertford FC who are yet to win after two games and are on one point.
Straths FC are the leaders in Zone Two after beating Hertford FC 2-1 on Friday with Everton Blackwood scoring twice and Anthony Stewart getting Hertford FC’s first goal of the season.
Roaring River, last season’s beaten finalists, saw their early lead eclipsed by Golden Touch in their 1-1 draw. Oshawn Neil gave Roaring River the lead in the 12th minute, while Darren Woolistan levelled for Golden Touch in the 60th minute.
On Thursday, Forever Sports had their first win of the season after back-to-back 0-0 draws, beating hosts Delveland PYC 2-0.
Nagime Mafalie scored in the 55th minute and Malik Quarrie added another in the 61st minute, the first goals of the season for Forever Sport, handing Delveland PYC their first loss this season.
In another game, former champions Negril FC and Russia FC played out a 0-0 draw, their first points of the campaign, in Zone One.
