St George’s, Papine in Grace Shield final
ST GEORGE’S College and Papine High will meet in the three-day ISSA/Grace Shield cricket final beginning this morning at Melbourne Oval at 10:00 o’ clock.
Both teams reached the final by winning their respective groups in the semi-final round that ended last week.
The North Street aggregation, jointly coached by Glendon Coke and assistant John Gordon, will come into the final fresh from their remarkable rallying win over Wolmer’s in the semi-finals and should be high on confidence.
Papine, who advanced to the final at the expense of Innswood, will themselves be bubbling with confidence as they search for their first title.
St George’s will be pinning their hopes on batters Kirk McKenzie, Joel Ewan, Kimani Wilson and Hakeem Francis to build up a good total, while the charge with the ball will be led by Gareth Holmes, Vauynai Bailey McKenzie and Yash Amin.
Papine, for their part, will hope captain Romario Lynch, David Bird, Raymond Hall, Orande Pearson and all-rounder Andre Bailey will be in the best form with the bat. In the bowling department, Kishawan Graham, along with Lynch and Bailey, will lead the effort.
