Resolution passed to change KSAC logo
A resolution to change the wording of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) logo to Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) was passed at yesterday’s municipal council meeting.
The resolution, moved by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Kintyre Division, Kelvin Clarke, also calls for the wording on all documents, stationery, posters, and other paraphernalia to be amended to KSAMC.
The resolution said that the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation Act was repealed and replaced by the Local Governance Act 2015.
It was argued in the resolution that the KSAMC’s renaming is “in accordance with Section 5-(1)n(a) of the Local Governance Act, 2015”.
The Local Governance Act, 2015 Bill was piloted by Noel Arscott, minister of local government in the then People’s National Party (PNP) Administration.
Following amendments to the legislation in February 2016, the parish councils were renamed municipal corporations. Town clerks and secretary managers were also renamed chief executive officers.
On February 17, 2016, the governor general signed the Local Governance Act, 2016.
The Bill entitled An Act to Amend the Local Government Act and to provide for connected matters states:
“This Act may be cited as the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2016, and shall be read and construed as one with the Local Governance Act (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
The resolution is to be sent to the Ministry of Local Government and Community Developement and all local authorities.
