Sam Sharpe, Firehouse hunt 2nd win in St James football
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College and Firehouse SC will both be going after second wins in three days when they take on Somerton FC and Bogue United, respectively, when the St James Football Association Sandals International Division One continues with return-round games today.
Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College, who are coming off a 4-2 win over Violet Kickers in Zone One, will host Somerton FC in Granville, while Zone Two leaders Firehouse SC take on Bogue United at the UDC Field, both games set to start at 3:00 pm.
On Monday at the UDC field, Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College took full advantage of Violet Kickers, who started the game with just eight players, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after 10 minutes with Nealon Lawrence and Deshane Brown scoring in the sixth and 10th minutes, respectively.
Ryan Binns pulled a goal back in the 25th minute for Violet Kickers, but Shaquille Russell in the 53rd and Kareem Murray in the 88th minute made it 4-1 before Gavin Williams got a second for Violet Kickers in the 89th minute.
At Bickersteth, Firehouse got goals from Dave Drummond in the 28th and Fabian Isaacs in the 40th minute to lead the home team, Copperwood FC, 2-0 at half time.
Henrico Campbell pulled a goal back early in the second half when he scored in the 48th minute, but Firehouse SC held on to win 2-1.
