Excelsior Community College to defend CCCJ title today
CATHERINE HALL, St James —Excelsior Community College will defend their title at today’s second staging of the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica’s (CCCJ) track and field and cheerleading championships at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, set to start at 10:00 am.
Eight institutions, one more than last year, are down to compete, with Bethlehem Moravian College joining the other teams that took part last year.
According to Aldene Crew, chairman of the organising committee, two new events have been added to the schedule.
“We have added the 300m Open for women and 5,000m Open for the men,” he said. The other events are the 100m, 200m 400m, 800m, 1500m, sprint medley relay, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relays, as well as discus throw, long jump, triple jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin.
Last year dominant Excelsior Community College scored 254 points, 80 more than second-placed College of Arts, Science and Education (174 points), with Montego Bay Community College taking third (153).
Portmore Community College was fourth (149), followed by Knox Community College (133), Moneague Community College (107) and Brown’s Town Community College (21).
Excelsior won the men’s section with 179 points, ahead of College of Arts, Science and Education (86) and Portmore CC (79), while College of Arts, Science and Education won the female section with 88 points, ahead of Montego Bay Community College and Excelsior CC 75 points each.
The teams participating today are Brown’s Town Community College, Bethlehem Moravian College, College of Agriculture, Science and Education, Excelsior Community College, Knox Community College, Moneague College, Montego Bay Community College and Portmore Community College.
