Security ministry continues social intervention programme in St James
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of National Security will tomorrow continue an intervention programme for vulnerable communities in the community of Salt Spring, St James.
The ministry, in a release, said it would be partnering with the Citizen Security & Justice Programme (CSJP), the Social Development Commission, (SDC) the Peace Management Initiative (PMI) and the St James Football Association in a community football league to engage approximately 600 unattached and highly unattached youths from six of the most troubled communities in the parish.
Football, the release said, will be used to educate and motivate the youth to become agents of change in their communities. Participants will also be engaged in football clinics, life skills workshop designed to help them adopt positive values and attitudes, learn coping skills and develop and nurture goals that will help them transition into skills training, mentorship, and job opportunities that might be available.
The competition to be held, reportedly has one phases, one which will see the teams compete within the communities, and another which will see the top two or three teams from each community tackle each other.
The former phase will begin at 9:00 am for Salt Spring tomorrow.
