#BudgetDebate: Holness apologises for 2010 Tivoli incursion
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness this afternoon made an apology on the floor of the nation’s Parliament to residents of Tivoli Gardens for the May 2010 incursion to arrest Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
Holness said he apologised as it was his duty as prime minister. Security persons embarked on an operation to apprehend then Tivoli Gardens ‘don’ Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke on May 24, 2010 when Holness’ Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) was last in power.
A total of 72 people died during the joint police/military operation.
Holness also apologised for the Coral Gardens incident of 1963, which a 2015 public defender report said infringed on the constitutional rights of Rastafarians and caused innumerable personal injuries and destruction of property.
