UPDATE: EOJ reports 22% turnout in 7 hours of Portmore by-election
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is reporting a 22.39 per cent voter turnout up to 2:00 pm for the Greater Portmore North By-Election.
Of the 10,677 eligible to vote, a total of 2,391 ballots were cast across the 38 polling stations in seven voting locations in the electoral division, the EOJ said.
EOJ earlier reported that at 11:00 am, 1,565 ballots were cast. Voting began at 7:00 am and continues until 5:00 pm.
Teacher Ann Marie Lewis is contesting the division for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), while accountant Gary Nicholson is seeking to keep the division for the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
The by-election is as a result of the vacancy left by the sudden death of PNP Councillor Michael ‘Fisher’ Edwards in January.
