#Champs2017: Three records tumble in girls’ sprint hurdles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — It is still early in the morning session on day four, and three records have already been established in the girls’ sprint hurdles at the 107th staging of the ISSA/ GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics currently under way at the National Stadium.
The first record of the day fell in the Class Three 80m hurdles courtesy of St Jago’s Crystal Morrison, who clocked a fast 10.98 seconds to lower the previous time of 11.10 seconds set last year by Britany Anderson of Vere Technical.
However, Anderson now running in Class Two continued the record breaking roller coaster between herself and Shanette Allison of Holmwood Technical in the 100m obstacle event.
After breaking the record in the heats with a time of 13.37 seconds, Anderson watched as Allison lowered the time to 13.30 seconds, but the former returned to cut that time even lower for a third time to 13.04 seconds.
The record rush spilled over to the Class One girls’ event, with Janeek Brown of Wolmer’s Girls clocking 13.53 seconds in semi-final one in a negative 0.4 metres per second wind speed to lower 13.56 seconds set by Peta-Gaye Williams in 2015.
But, Gabrielle McDonald of Edwin Allen erased that time and posted 13.52 seconds in a positive 0.4 metres per second wind speed.
The record count at this year’s staging now stands at seven, with six being claimed on the girls’ side of action and one on the boys’ side.
