Ricky T performs
St Lucian soca star Ricky T is scheduled to perform in Jamaica for the first time at the soca party Wine Down, which is set for this Sunday April 9 at the Palms, Giscombe’s Gym and Wellness Centre on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew.
“I am excited to face the Jamaican soca fans and even more elated to have my debut performance be for a great cause that directly impacts the youth and minority on conditions that affect so many but goes unnoticed’, Ricky T said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Proceeds from the event will be in aid of Shauna Fuller Clarke’s B.A.S.E. Foundation, which is geared towards raising awareness of Endometriosis and providing support for those affected by the condition, as well as the Jamaica Down’s Syndrome Foundation.
Sabrina Webster of Creative Hub Limited, promoters of Wine Down explained how the beneficiaries were chosen.
“Both were chosen because of my interaction with them in the past and hearing of their failed efforts in trying to raise funds required for their work. With the economy becoming even more tight on potential sponsors, most are not able to give donations to all charitable organisations in need. We found a way to combine several experiences to get the attention of patrons; unique wine experiences with live performances from their favourite artistes all while giving back to two special causes that hit closer to home than we realise — great value”, said Webster.
Ricky T whose real name is Ricky Joseph is from Castries. He has been performing soca music professionally since 2006. Among his hits are Freaky Girls and Pressure Boom. He has collaborated with a number of Jamaican artistes including Mr Vegas, Jah Cure and Capleton.
Organised annually, the first Wine Down was held in November 2015 at the ATL/Audi Showroom in New Kingston.
“We have been hosting this event once yearly; however we will be changing that to quarterly so our next staging is set for June 2017,” Webster disclosed.
