This week, we provide responses to the other questions and concerns that you raised last week.First, will doing a double major make you more marketable? It might. The final determination will depend largely on how you apply yourself as well as to some extent on the perspective of the recruiter. For example, if you earn an honour’s degree with your double major, that will certainly be impressive. However, if you are not able to clearly articulate your ability to apply the knowledge gained and skills developed in the application or interview processes, the degree in and of itself will not give you a competitive edge beyond the initial impression.Your other consideration was the choice of either economics and finance or economics and accounting. Based on your desired career destination, both options are good and will be valuable to the central bank. Your interests and motivation should guide the final choice and not simply the prospect of monetary gain.I find that the argument that a double major is overrated as it does not allow for adequate depth of content is not necessarily true. A double major, in contrast to a major with a minor, allows for both breadth and depth, as the requirements for both areas have to be met.Now to your final question. Is it possible to do a double major and a minor? Typically, yes. At universities where double majors are offered or facilitated you can have two majors and a minor. Alternatively, you can have one major and two minors.I trust that these responses will guide you on the path to fulfilling your aspiration of becoming an economist and specifically one offering service at the Bank of Jamaica.All the best in your CSEC exams.
