Medical students seeking to raise $10m for Linstead Hospital
THE University of the West Indies MBBS/DDS Class of 2020 will be using the annual Smoker performances September 6-10, 2017 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts to raise money for the Linstead Public Hospital.
In its 60th year,
Smoker is an annual benefit play upheld each year by the university’s third-year medical and dental students. The aim of the event is to instil the importance of service and national pride in the next generation of health professionals.This year’s production is written and produced by the students of the Class of 2020, and all of the proceeds are in aid of the Linstead Hospital.The Class of 2020, in partnership with Member of Parliament of St Catherine North Western Robert Pickersgill; businessman Desmond Panton, and Jamaica National Bank, is aiming to raise $10 million, which includes the cost of an ambulance. The event’s target audience includes university students and alumni.The group said it has been reaching out to the financial sector, medical supply companies, as well as the food and automobile industries to join for support in order to make the
Smoker initiative a success.
